Third Life
The Third Life collection celebrates the enduring spirit of wood and material rebirth. Each piece is crafted from previously used, donated materials—furniture, lumber, offcuts—that have been salvaged through our recycling program and given a new purpose. Inspired by George Nakashima’s belief that “a tree lives on in its second life as a piece of furniture,” we take that one step further. These works represent a *third* life: a renewal not just of form, but of meaning, where history, sustainability, and craftsmanship converge.
One of a kind wood and copper sculpture depicting two butterflies alighting on a tree root. The bodies of the butterflies are hammered from a copper ingot. The wings are curly maple veneer that has been cut and decorated by a pyrography pen. The mount is a root, likely from a rhododendron, that my wife brought home to me because she thought I would like it.
