Furniture Sugi Ban Headboard
I made this queen-sized headboard for my son as a high school graduation gift. It is an example of the sugi ban technique taken to an extreme. Where most sugi ban finishes usually have one or two burn/brush cycles and no sanding, this had 3 levels of additional sanding with something called Nyalox flap brushes. The extra sanding greatly increases the relief (texture) and polishes the surface -- especially the darker winter growth.
The legs are fir 4x4's from the local home improvement center with 2 cycles of burn/brush. There's a 10 degree pitch to the cut where it meets the headboard to give a nice recline.
